Statistics for Business and Economics 9th Edition

4 stars (good book with good cases) - Very good text book with very useful and practical real cases, which make the boring theory interesting. I think it is very useful for my job and daily life. 4 stars (Effective text for students and anyone wanting to brush up) - This is a very readable and useable text for undergraduates, business students, and general readers who want to learn or brush-up on basic statistics. There is a tremendous amount of information in its 1200 pages, but it is well laid out, amply illustrated, with lots of practical work. The answers to the odd numbered questions are provided in the back to aid self-study. There are several appendices that provide important tables and the methods for calculating important statistical formulas. The index is also quite helpful. I think the book has a good balance of the technical with the practical. It is easy on the eyes and though statistics necessitates the use of a significant amount of math, it is well explained and never overwhelms the reader. ...

Implementing Six Sigma- Smarter Solutions Using Statistical Methods- 2nd Edition

5 stars (A great book) - At the beggining I hate the S4/IEE term but at the end I loved the book because it has a lot os technical information about statistics as it promises. 5 stars (Comprehensive Six Sigma stats w/ exercises) - I got what I was looking for, a comprehensive statistics book applied in Six Sigma world. It covers everything a SS professional needs to use to be able to successfully solve the vast majority of the statistical problems throughout Six Sigma projects. Excellent book overall! 4 stars (Six Sigma - Breyfogle) - A thorough reference book for Six Sigma and the implementation process. As a beginner, I have found it very dense. It seems to explain everything involved in Six Sigma in great detail, but it does not offer examples, so ought to be supplemented with other reference materials. ...

The Six Sigma Handbook- The Complete Guide for Greenbelts- Blackbelts- and Managers at All Levels- R

4 stars (Six Sigma Critique) - This book is an excellent resource, however it is not an easy read. If you are unfamiliar with the Six Sigma language it takes awhile to sift through the information. There is a lot o information provided that will serve as a longterm resource. 2 stars (This is not a Six Sigma Handbook) - I bought this book because it's a Six Sigma Handbook, but unfortunately it is not, is a book of SPC, it has a lot about control charts, run charts, etc. about hypothesis testing just a little!, anyway. I have to select better my books. 5 stars (The Best Six Sigma Book from alpha to z-tests ) - This book is a must have for anyone applying six sigma to real world problems. Not only do I use it on a nearly daily basis, I'm finding that my engineers are embracing the terminology and concepts so clearly conveyed in this text. We're spending 20-minutes at each staff meeting to review topics from basic statistics to advanced application of teaming concepts to get results. Instead of the usual soft stuff application examples that seem to illustrate that the author thinks everyone's making clothes pins, Pyzdek's book shows that he's really lived this stuff. I highly recommend this book to anyone serious about applying six sigma for results. Joe Maciulla Manager, Manufacturing Engineering Systems Raytheon Missile Systems ...

DSM-IV Made Easy- The Clinician-s Guide to Diagnosis

5 stars (AWESOME BOOK!!!) - This is an AWESOME book. The case vignettes are extremely helpful, and the book is written so that it is easy to read. I HATE "textbook" type books, and this book isn't like that at all. It really does help to clarify some of the diagnoses in the DSM, which can be quite confusing even when someone has used the manual for years. I've used this book a lot already, even though I've only had it about a month. It's helped me tease apart some details and observations to make what I think are more accurate diagnoses with some of my clients. Purchase this book and you will NOT be sorry!! 4 stars (A practical explanation of the DSM-IV) - This book provides a practical explanation of the "DSM-IV" that will appeal to anyone who wants a thorough, simplified description of this complex book. I'm only giving it four stars because I don't think it provides an explanation of the latest changes made in the "DSM-IV-TR". The book will nonetheless appeal to nearly anyone seeking to improve their grasp of psychiatry, not just psychiatrists in training. Avery Z. Conner, author of "Fevers of the Mind". 4 stars (The DSM-IV Made Easy) - I do not know how I would have gotten through my first experience having to use the DSM as a diagnostic tool for my graduate work in psychopathology without this book. I used it to work up all my case presentations, and they were always accurate. Thank you, James Morrison! ...

Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences- Sixth Edition

4 stars (Very good instructions and practice exercises!) - Very good resource, it helped me to review for my entrance exams (Educational Psychology doctoral program). I passed them both. Be careful, though, this author doesn't use SUMMATION NOTATION. Make sure you learn that somewhere else if you're going into upper level courses. 5 stars (Gravetter's Statistics book) - This is one of the clearest books on introductory Statistics that I have read. Extremely logically written in a straight forward style. If you can't grasp Statistics using this book...try a different pursuit in college. Every concept is precisely explained and one subject builds upon the next. Gravetter provides one example after another in an attempt to hammer the concepts home...and a successful one I might add. This book also provides a solid foundation for the 1st half of an advanced, Stats II course. 5 stars (This book has saved my life) - I am about half way through this book and I actually understand, maybe even a bit excited about statistics. This book is definetly the best math/statisics textbook I have ever used. If you have hidden in fear from math but want to go to grad school, pick up a copy of this and you will not regret it. ...

Probability and Statistics for Engineers and Scientists 7th Edition

5 stars (An extraordinary text : precise , complete and expressive!) - This book was my battlehorse when I was an Engineer Industrial student in the eighties . Stiil I bought the second Edition , this one has a visible quality above the others . His nice presentation , the increased level of difficult in every chapter . Useful for those Enginnering students , Pharmace, Administration in Pre Grade and Post Grade students . 4 stars (Good book for those who know what they're doing) - I really enjoy using this as a reference book when I need to look something up about inference. Everything in the book is highlighted well and gives clear and concise answer. If you're a straight A student in Math, there should be nothing confusing about this text. 4 stars (Worked a lot better for me than the others) - I thought this was a pretty good text for an introduction to statistics with a modicum of calculus (I used the 5th edition). I am a biologist and had taken statistics without calculus (VERY cookbook approach the first time through) so maybe knowing where the math was eventually taking me was the difference. I am very (brutally) applied in my interest in statistics (use it daily to model fish populations, estimate critter abundance, etc.) so I could see where I would not agree with the mathematician who said it killed the beauty of the subject (although I am not gifted enough in math to see the beauty of statistics; I honestly would like to be). Also I did cover the text in two classes (1st up through calculating a confidence interval, 2nd on the general linear model) so that may have made a difference as well - if the others were forced to march through all of the material in the book in 18 weeks. I notice that a lot of the reviewers are computer scientists (ones in my class hated the subject matter - I was not sure why it was a required course for them anyway) or mathematicians. Anyone else out there from the natural or physical sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, g...

Essentials of Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences

5 stars (Wow! Clear, Concise, Excellent Book) - Having seriously struggled for the last two years with the statistics side of my Psychology studies, this book has really made things so much clearer. An excellent book for anyone struggling to grasp the basic statistical concepts required in behavioral sciences. 5 stars (One of the Best Intro to Stats Texts) - Having taken statistics before, I know a good book when I see one. This is hands down, one of the best intro to stats book. Unlike other stats textbooks, Essentials gives you the information in a concise manner accompanied by varied step-by-step examples towards understanding all the statistical tests. Psychology students have it lucky to have a book like this. 5 stars (Understandable Statistics at Last!) - This is the first statistics textbook that I have actually understood and enjoyed, and I have read many of them. The authors take students through the material step by step and do not make assumptions about prior knowledge. The charts and examples are very helpful and clearly presented. As textbooks go, this is the best! ...

Statistics for Psychology 3rd Edition

2 stars (Inexcusable!) - I've never come across a textbook with so many mathematical and typographical errors! It was absolutely infuriating! We could never trust what the book gave as a solution to an exercise. If the authors would fix these errors it would be a decent text. 5 stars (Perfect for undergrads and grad students alike) - I was amazed w/how clearly this book explained concepts (as compared with other books/professors). The book also explains the concepts in different ways/perspectives, so that if you don't understand one explanation you're likely to understand the others. The book also has a perfect range of material--complete coverage of Z-scores, t-tests, regression, and ANOVAs; all the way thru concepts like MANOVA/MANCOVA, and multiple regression. Also at the end includes a couple great chapters which give very simple explanations of more complex procedures such as structural equation modeling, causal modeling, factor analysis, etc. By far the best stats book I've read. 5 stars (A great book for the non-statistically minded) - I found this book greatly supportive to a non-statistically minded person such as myself. The authors realise that not everyone feels comfortable with doing statistics and, indeed, actually dread it. Since I need to do a Statistics for Psychology course to continue in Psychology it has been a relief that the main text used has been written to aid the statistically impaired. It is fulled with many mind-easing comments etc. and, with the combination of this book and my lecturer at the University of Canterbury, I am actually learning to enjoy something I never thought I would enjoy. A big thank you to Arthur and Elaine Aron. You have helped me continue my studies in the field I wish to remain in - Psychology. ...

Business Objects- The Complete Reference

5 stars (Wonderful resource!) - I was thrilled when I heard that a book was being published on Business Objects! After getting a copy of Cindi Howson's book, I was even more pleased! It is truly a very comprehensive guide on how to use Business Objects. It does a good job of explaining the concepts behind business intelligence as well the the different Business Objects products. I think every person who uses Business Objects would benefit from owning this book! I recommend it through our local user group and to all of my clients! 4 stars (Business Objects: The Complete Reference) - As a reference guide, the book is extremely valuable. I have seen other books on this subject that are essentially a copy of the help guide. Not to mention that the pricing is 2 to 3 times what a normal book would cost. The examples are good and the index is pretty complete. A test for a good reference book is that you can readily find the solution to a particular problem. Ms. Howson's book certainly fits the bill. It would have been nice to have more how to descriptions and practical solutions to common business problems. 5 stars (More than BO!) - Based on the first section alone, Getting Ready for Business Objects, I would recommend this book to anyone just starting out in the Business Intelligence space! Finally someone has come out with a workable model for BI implementation. It is obvious Ms. Howson actually operates in the real world and understands that sometimes you have to OLTP before you STAR and OLAP. In addition to this lagniappe, there are solid explanations of Universe Design and Report Creation principles. I actually prefer the WROX line of books, but this compares nicely in terms of technical depth. The book provides perspective from both the IT professional and the end user. However, it provides no explanation of how to install or tune Business Objects servers. Basically, it assumes that Business Objects is up and running. I would say that the book is prima...

Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-IV-TR Text Revision Diagnostic and Stat

5 stars (DSM IV-TR) - This book is absolutely necessary if you are training to become a psychologist or an LPC. It is very comprehensive for giving diagnoses. 4 stars (Useful but not that revised) - We are in the in-between time, the DSM-IV being over a decade old, and the DSM-V being due out at some unspecified date, but giving the general publication rate of the major DSM revisions and the advance of general knowledge, it cannot be too far into the future. I have the DSM-IV, burgundy-cover edition, and have dipped into the DSM-IV-TR on occasion from the library, but have found no particular reason to need to purchase the TR silver edition for the kind of work I do. This is a guide that is useful, indeed required, for graduate students in mental health and psychological fields, and for professionals working in those fields. As a pastoral care provider, I find it useful in many cases, but will warn that it is not a definitive tool to be used by itself in the hands of laypersons (which, in terms of professional psychology, I most certainly am). Symptoms and diagnoses are difficult to isolate, and not to be left in the hands of amateurs - to that end, I often worry about the general availability of books such as this (I have a similar fear for the PDR, the Physicians Desk Reference, whereby people try to self-diagnose and self-medicate based on their reading). The DSM-IV is not without controversy - indeed, the whole psychological enterprise is not without controversy. However, this is the current standard by which the profession measures itself (sometimes a bit in opposition, but there are few who hold the DSM to be meaningless). Professionals will want to have this book; graduate students may or may not need this particular revision. 2 stars (A Great Manual To Promote Diseases !!) - The DSM IV-TR is a great book to promote diseases that fit the armaments of medications that the pharmaceutical companies would like physicians to use. The problem with th...

Statistical Inference

5 stars (It is an excellent textbook. Strongly recommended!) - [1] It is a very very good textbook of frequentist statistics, well self-organized. [2] The mathematics is precise and clear. [3] Anyone who is interested in the classical statistics may need such an excellent reference at hand. [4] If you decide to buy it, you'd better to check the website http://www.campusi.com/, where sometime you can find a surprise. 4 stars (Explains many topics well, where others fail) - This book was the recommended companion to my math stat's required textbook. In almost every case where I didn't understand the explanation given in lecture or in the main textbook, I could understand this book's explanation. I cannot vouch for the entire textbook, but I would not have understood MLE without it. The one star missing is because of the book's tendency to mention earlier sections of the book, which was frustrating since I was using it as a reference. Incidentally, I used this edition, but I didn't pay even close to the price here, so definitely comparison shop. 4 stars (A Good Book) - Overall, this book is a solid introduction to mathematical statistics. Exposition is clear and it fully motivates all concepts. I really only have one complaint: this book omits a few topics. A relatively minor example is the absence of the cumulant generating function. More disturbingly is that it does not have a full discussion of the multi-normal distribution (possibly to avoid some non-trivial linear algebra?). However, being that the book is otherwise quite complete and these topics can be found elsewhere these are rather annoyances than fatal flaws. ...

5 stars (Thank you!) - Wonderful transaction, and got it in about a week...thank you-the book is in good condition. 5 stars (The best intro/intermediate statistics textbook available) - This book is the best introductory to intermediate statistics textbook currently available. The authors do an excellent job of explaining how to go about doing statistics. The example problems are throughly worked out for the beginning student. All the steps needed to solve the various kinds of problems that a student will encounter in a statistics course are included. The notation used in the formulas is clear and straightforward. The treatment of p-values and multiple regression analysis is the best exposition to be found among current introductory/intermediate texts .I have taught 4-5,000 students statistics at the introductory, intermediate, and graduate level.I highly recommend this book for anyone taking an introductory to intermediate level course in statistics. 1 stars (statistical techniques in business and ecomomics) - Yes my name is Courtney Jackson. I order this book and it stated that it would have a cd with the book but when I received the book it was not a cd in the book. So what do I need to do. I received the book from John Dood, P.O.Box 1405, Snellville, Ga 30078. So I really need a cd for my book if not I am going to send the whole book back. ...

Statistics for Business and Economics with CD-ROM and InfoTrac Statistics for Business - Economic

3 stars (Not the best book on the subject and the price......) - I teach Stats 201 (Introduction to Business Statistics) and for years I used the textbook by Wiers, which I feel is the best in it's field. After numerous obsrvations by my colleagues in the department, we hope that will be going back to the previous author's book after the current stock of this one runs out. I find this book to be confusing, and it tends to jump around a lot rather than give a structured look at the process of learning Statistics. It pays little or no attention to the use of random numbers and the terminology is confusing. Perhaps the biggest drawback with this book is the price- almost 150 bucks for a textbook is outrageous. Buy the previous edition used- the difference is minimal, the price difference is significant. Better still- buy the book on the same subject by Wiers. Don't just take my word- compare the two....it's just my opinion. 5 stars (Best text of first year MBA) - Statistics is a mind-numbing subject. It's not easy, and not particularly exciting, either. This book doesn't exactly bring loads of fun to the subject, but it explains concepts well, provides pertinent examples, and offers plenty of useful practice problems. The authors and publishers have paid particularly close attention to detail, ensuring, for instance, that all diagrams are on the same page as the concepts they elucidate. This may be a small thing to some, but I find it tiresome that with so many texts you are forced continually to flip back and forth from diagrams on one page to pertinent information on another. I have a background in the Humanities and before the MBA stats course had not completed a math course since high school -- 20 years ago! (48th percentile quant GMAT!) My head was swimming after the first couple of lectures, but I sat down with this text, read it carefully, worked through ALL the problems, and received an A in the course. So far, I know of no other person that earned ...
